The Operations Division emphasized that it is possible to open fire at a vehicle that breaks into a checkpoint while trying to harm the police - when there is a fear for human life

The police today (Tuesday) eased the opening fire procedures, towards a vehicle that endangers the lives of police officers at checkpoints following the incident in which the volunteer, the late Major Amichai Carmeli, was killed over the weekend.

In refining the procedure distributed in the Operations Division and under the direction of the Commissioner for All Police Officers, it was emphasized that it is possible to open fire at a vehicle that breaks into a checkpoint while attempting to injure police officers - when there is a fear for human life.

It was important for Commissioner Kobi Shabtai to refine the directive to open fire in the event of a life-threatening situation so that police officers would not be afraid to act with all the means at their disposal. At the same time, he wants to send a message to criminals

In the serious incident, which took place on Saturday morning, a vehicle in which four Rahat residents in Carmeli and two other police officers were sitting at a checkpoint near Beit Dagan was hit.

The findings at the scene showed that all the occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, were drunk.

According to the suspicion, the four hit their car in a taxi in Rishon Lezion.

They fled the scene and came across a police checkpoint for a drunkenness check on Road 412 near Beit Dagan, which was manned and run over by police volunteers.
