Israel Security Award 2022 for Ofek observation satellites

The award was given to three outstanding projects by the IDF, the Mossad, the GSS and the Ministry of Defense.

The Israel Security Award for 2022 was presented today (Tuesday) to three outstanding projects by the IDF, the Mossad, the GSS and the Ministry of Defense.

The award was presented in the presence of President Yitzhak Herzog, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz, Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi and Defense Ministry Director General Amir Eshel.

The winning projects contributed to national security, including: the Ofek observation satellites, a classified project of Unit 8200 in the IDF's Intelligence Division, and another project of the Mossad.

President Yitzhak Herzog said during the award ceremony that thanks to the winners, the State of Israel continues to ensure that it will never defend itself.

"Even these days our enemies do not give up, and threaten our security in our country and abroad," he stressed.

"We face many security challenges, some of which are known, and many of which are not known to the public. The State of Israel, the defense systems, and the Israeli spirit will continue to stand firm, openly and secretly, in the face of any threat, and in the face of any enemy."

Defense Minister Bnei Gantz also spoke at the award ceremony, saying that in the face of Iranian aggression, not only cooperation is needed, but a joint force building.

"In the days when Iran is turning off the cameras at nuclear sites and expanding its aggressive operations in the region - we place the ability, cooperation, and determination to act to prevent a threat to the world, the region and the State of Israel," he stressed.

"The partnership and deep connection with our American partners and allies, as well as the relations we have been building and upgrading in recent years with the countries of the region, are also an essential component of Israel's superiority in the region."

The Ofek observation satellite project, which is shared by Mapat in the Ministry of Defense, Unit 9900 of the IDF Intelligence Division, IAI and Elbit Systems
