The open all-day school has existed at the Forstern middle school for five years.

"That has greatly strengthened our location," says Vice President Andreas Preuschl.

Forstern

– The open all-day school (OGTS) at the middle school in Forstern celebrates its fifth anniversary in the new school year.

"It's now really established at our school," reported Vice President Andreas Preuschl at the meeting of the school association meeting of the Forstern middle school association and explained: "Since that time, no student from our catchment area has moved to Markt Schwaben.

That has greatly strengthened our location.”

The Forstern all-day program is "still praised from all sides," added Preuschl.

Supervision of homework and explicit qualification preparation for the ninth graders are particularly important.

OGTS manager Dominik Rehbein and his team are always in close contact with the teachers.

But projects and activities are also part of the offer - excursions, handicrafts and cooking activities, sports or working together in the school garden.

"The whole day is part of our school, and that's what we live by," said headmistress Annett Taubert.

According to Preuschl, the two groups will be retained in the 2022/23 school year.

On average, there are around 50 registrations.

The number of students will develop well overall: As Taubert reported, there will be a stable fifth class with around 25 children in the next school year, the principal expects a total of 134 students.

That would be 15 more than in the current school year.

Secondary school Forstern: Career entry support is still possible

And Preuschl announced another piece of good news: Career entry support as intensive support for students in need of support is still possible: "We are very happy about that." As reported, the support was on the brink for financial reasons.

It was not until mid-April that the Ministry of Education released the message: "The career start support, which provides valuable support in the transition from school to working life, will also be continued for the next year from the 2022/2023 school year."

Preuschl explained that this individual socio-pedagogical measure helps children with disabilities or those who do not receive any support from home.

A trained specialist is available for five to six pupils per grade level, who works with them and their families to find out what jobs are possible for them and in which companies they can learn them.

"This is an important building block in middle school," added Taubert.

School Association Assembly: Mayor criticizes the Ministry of Education

Buchs Mayor Ferdinand Geisberger criticized the fact that there had been uncertainty in this matter for months: "It's not beneficial."

In general, the Ministry of Culture "sometimes really let down" schools as well as the municipalities as bearers of material expenses.

There are subsidies for digitization, for example, "but we have to support the municipalities with all the work that comes after that."

If you don't do that, the location is no longer so attractive.

"And you can see that the students go where they get the best equipment and the best care.

That's why we as municipalities have to take money into our hands," said Geisberger and was very disappointed that "we are not being provided with more money".

At the same time, he expressed his thanks to the school staff, who often had to implement new guidelines from the ministry within a very short time during the Corona period.
