He thanked the officials for their commitment.

Several hundred visitors took part, including mayors from the region.

According to previous information, as many officials are said to be on duty as at the summit seven years ago, when there were around 18,000. The heads of state and government of seven leading industrial nations will meet at Schloss Elmau for the second time from June 26th to 28th.

At the same time, the right to assemble for those who want to demonstrate is protected.

"We want to prevent violence in Germany and keep the peace," said the minister.

He hopes that "we will be spared too much turbulence".

An ensemble from the Bavarian Police Orchestra accompanied the service musically.

In the wake of the war in Ukraine, the topic of peace took on a special place.

The war will overshadow the summit, Herrmann also said.

The police are helping to deal with the influx of displaced people to the best of their ability.
