"Black and brown people, immigrants, mom-and-pop stores have been bubbling under the surface of this industry, working hard for a long time to establish our place in American food. I'm standing on the backs of so many of them and today a girl or a black child can see themselves as future recognized chefs," Bailey said in accepting the award.
