The new contract between LaLiga and Movistar leaves it up in the air if Carlos Martínez will continue to narrate the matches

The body chaired by Javier Tebas could make the decision regarding the Movistar Plus + meetings, which would leave out the usual voice team

The alerts have jumped for football fans: the voices of LaLiga in Movistar Plus + could change next season.

After 32 years as narrator of the main matches, Carlos Martínez could cease to be the voice that sings the goals, and former soccer player and former coach Jorge Valdano, who analyzes the tactics of the teams.

The origin of this possible earthquake, although everything is up in the air, lies in the change in the broadcasting rights of the competition for the next five seasons.

The payment platform DAZN and Movistar took over the audiovisual rights of LaLiga for the period between 2022 and 2027, in an agreement for 4,950 million euros.

Each operator kept five games for each day, although Telefónica has paid DAZN 1,400 million to be able to also broadcast its package and thus be able to offer LaLiga in full.

The sports organization, as on previous occasions, offered the operators to personalize the broadcast with the narration and comments of their own team or to use the signal they themselves produce, with the commentators provided by LaLiga.

DAZN accepted him for all five of his matches.

According to a spokesperson for this platform, the service is currently outlining its voice team, which will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Movistar and DAZN will broadcast LaLiga between 2022 and 2027

Instead, Movistar has not yet made that decision.

As they explain from the Telefónica platform, the decision will depend on the signal that LaLiga will send them and that, as specified in the contract's specifications, must "maintain a quality similar to the current one".

Once Movistar checks what those characteristics are, it will decide if they choose to personalize it and, therefore, resort to their usual team of narrators and commentators, both in the booth and on the field and in the box, or if they keep the signal as it is sent by LaLiga.

If they finally opt for this second option, viewers of LaLiga matches on Movistar could find voices very different from the ones they have been listening to for years.

In a meeting with journalists on Monday, Javier Tebas referred to this matter.

“We will work in the world of locution.

I think some change is needed.

We could be wrong, but we have verified that it was necessary to change, ”said the president of LaLiga, in a statement collected by the Europa Press agency.

Regarding the possible departure of Carlos Martínez as narrator, Tebas replied: "I don't know if he will be there or not... They are not things that also depend on me."

But he did show his preferences for other voices different from the usual ones: “You can keep some of the usual ones, but not others.

And then I would like to see some women do it, and also young people, who have been stomping from the radio stations”.

Movistar also has the rights to European football matches for the next two seasons.

In those meetings, including the Champions League, there will be no change in the narrative because the agreement remains.

As for the five LaLiga matches that Movistar will broadcast from DAZN, the narration and comments will be those made by the latter operator's team, with the only difference being that the viewer will be able to watch these matches in their linear broadcast or on DAZN on demand.
