To witness this important milestone, VTC held the "VTC 40th Anniversary and Outstanding Alumni Award Ceremony" yesterday. The ceremony was held at Chai Wan College of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), a member of the VTC institution. In his welcome speech, Mr. Dai Zetang, Chairman of VTC, pointed out that VTC has developed from five industrial colleges and now has 13 institutional members. It provides valuable vocational education courses to about 200,000 students every year, and cultivates diverse talents for local social and economic development.

He is happy to see VTC students and graduates integrate professional skills and innovative technologies to create value for the society.

Distinguished alumni achieve excellence

At the ceremony, VTC presented the Distinguished Alumni Awards to outstanding alumni in recognition of their achievements in professional fields and contributions to society.

The alumni who received the Distinguished Alumni Award this year include Ms. Chen Jiamin, Ms. Chen Anxin, Ms. Cai Yide, Mr. Fan Jianwen, Mr. Jian Zhenzhe, Mr. Kwan Bingyuan, Ir. Lao Tzu Yang, Mr. Mak Kam Kui, Mr. Wu Caihua, Dr. Sun Weihao, Mr. Shum Houde, architect, Xian Meiyu Madam, Mr. Tang Jiahao and Mr. Ye Tailai.

Chefs Without Borders Mak Kam Kui

Celebrity chef Mr. Mak Kam Kui is one of the outstanding alumni of this year. He is determined to join the culinary world and make a career. It is all because he took VTC's Western Cooking Certificate Course that year, which made him understand that cooking is a professional skill. He continued his studies and completed VTC's Master Western Chef Course in 2007.

Today, he is not only the executive chef of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (Hotel), but also has won several international culinary competition awards. In 2013, he led the Hong Kong team and won the overall total in the "World Master Chef Competition". champion.

In recent years, he has been actively involved in volunteer work. Another winner of the "Outstanding Alumni Award", Mr. Tang Jiahao, is the executive chef of Chinese cuisine at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. At the age of 35, he became one of the youngest "Michelin" chefs in the Cantonese cuisine industry in Hong Kong.

He has been passionate about cooking since he was a child, and was admitted to the Chinese Culinary Institute in 2004 to receive systematic professional training. With talent and hard work, at the age of 30, he has become the head chef of Chinese cuisine in an international five-star hotel. , In 2019, he was invited to the TEDxCharterRoad platform to share his career success.
