Heavy storms with hailstorms turned parts of Saxony and Thuringia into a winter landscape on Monday.
Offenbach – Slippery streets and a blatant drop in temperature – cars and house roofs were suddenly covered with snow and hail.
What a wintry spectacle and that in the middle of June.

While summery weather attracted many people to the lakes and rivers for swimming, things looked completely different in parts of Saxony and Thuringia on Monday afternoon (June 13).
Heavy hailstorms transformed regions into a winter landscape.
No sign of a heat wave.
Suddenly it was winter again.
Fields and meadows covered with ice grains and snow.
Local media report that local residents had to use snow shovels.
The weather spectacle in the Ore Mountains lasted ten minutes.
A hailstorm had previously passed over Jena in Thuringia, reports the weather
portal wetteronline.de.
21 liters of precipitation per square meter were recorded there within one hour.
Then the thunderstorm moved on over the northern Vogtland.

Winter weather in June: temperature drop and hailstones up to two centimeters in size
The cold air literally rushed out of the clouds and the temperature dropped from 19 to 10 degrees within an hour.
This was also confirmed by meteorologist Florian Engelmann from the German Weather Service (DWD) in the
Berliner Zeitung
.
In the Fichtelgebirge, the temperature is said to have even dropped to 5 degrees.
It was not until Pentecost that hail masses piled up on the streets, and conditions were sometimes chaotic.
That hurts the gardener's heart: rhododendron blossoms lie between hailstones on the ground.

However, the lightning winter is over.
The fresh Atlantic air warms up significantly under the influence of high pressure.
Weather experts are expecting high summer in the next few days.
Maximum values of up to 38 degrees are possible in the west, south and east.
