"Summer wave is reality" - Lauterbach alarmed: Corona numbers are developing rapidly

The number of infections is increasing again, although people were used to something different from the summer.

The Robert Koch Institute reports a seven-day incidence of 472.4 (previous day: 447.3) and 92,344 new infections for Wednesday (June 15).
In addition, 112 deaths related to the virus were reported.
However, these data are hardly suitable for comparison and do not form a complete picture.
Since less is tested overall, the RKI assumes even higher values.
These developments are worrying experts - including Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach.
If he initially warned of a summer wave, he is now tightening his statement.

Just a day ago, SPD politician Lauterbach tweeted: "A summer wave was to be expected." He also continues to advise wearing a mask and a fourth vaccination.

"Unfortunately, the announced summer wave has become reality," says Lauterbach, "that means little relaxation for the next few weeks."
He sees the reason for this above all in the currently determining virus variant, which is easily transmittable.
In addition, almost all protective measures no longer apply in the meantime and so “the summer effect will fizzle out this year”.
In the past two years of the pandemic, the strict precautionary measures, the rising temperatures and the fact that people are spending more time outside have always resulted in a significant drop in the number of infections in the summer months.
Only in the autumn did they rise again.
Virologist Hendrik Streeck also warns of autumn and a special event in winter.
Lauterbach advises the fourth vaccination for risk groups
In order to protect people who are particularly at risk, Karl Lauterbach appeals to older and previously ill people to be vaccinated against the corona virus a fourth time.
British researchers were recently very convinced of the second booster vaccination.
The Minister of Health emphasizes that a fourth vaccination does not prevent infection, but protects against a severe course.
According to the RKI, 75.9 percent of the German population are now basic immunized, i.e. have received two vaccinations.
59.8 percent have had a booster shot so far.
Of these, 5.3 million people (6.4 percent) already the second.
