The city of Mannheim is fighting against the dangerous Asian tiger mosquito and has called on its citizens to help fight the animals.

Mannheim - Microsoft boss Bill Gates had already warned in 2014 about the "deadliest animal in the world": the Asian tiger mosquito.

The mosquito species is considered the main carrier of the dangerous dengue fever, in which the body reacts with flu-like symptoms and a fever of up to 40 degrees Celsius.

Due to climate change, the dangerous tiger mosquito from the tropics is spreading more and more in our region.

Mosquitoes have increased in Baden-Württemberg in recent years and spread to the areas.

Among other things, the Asian tiger mosquito was discovered in the state capital of Stuttgart or in the district of Ludwigsburg.

But the "most dangerous animal in the world" has already attacked Heilbronn.

Now the city of Mannheim is also struggling with a plague of tiger mosquitoes.

Asian tiger mosquito attacks Mannheim - city asks citizens to help fight it

In recent years, tiger mosquitoes have been found more frequently in the region around Mannheim.

With the support of its citizens, Mannheim wants to determine whether the animal is already native to an area.

In recent years, the city has called on all Mannheim residents to help fight it by sending potential Asian tiger mosquitoes personally or by post to the youth welfare and health departments, as MANNHEIM24 reports.

The Mannheim health department hopes that this year too, citizens will again take part in the hunt for tiger mosquitoes.

Since 2016, around 50 specimens of different mosquito and other insect species have been sent in for inspection.

However, a tiger mosquito was not yet to be found among them.

It is important for the scientists to locate and contain even small populations.

This is the only way to prevent the dangerous mosquito species from settling in Mannheim.

Tiger mosquito is often confused with native insect species

It cannot be ruled out that the Asian tiger mosquito is native to Mannheim.

However, the dangerous animal is often confused with the native Ringelschnack.

Both mosquito species have a tiger pattern.

However, this is more pronounced in the Asian tiger mosquito.

In addition, it is also much smaller than the ringworm.

According to Bill Gates, the "most dangerous animal in the world" is not only considered a carrier of dengue fever, but also of other virus variants.

Christiane Wagner-Wiening from the State Health Office said that the risk of other diseases similar to the corona virus suddenly spreading in Baden-Württemberg is still very low.

However, it will certainly be interesting to see whether the Asian tiger mosquito will be detected in Mannheim at some point in the future.
