It's been an exciting few weeks for animal shelter dog Luna.

The dog arrives at the Bergheim animal shelter in great pain, and a little later she is operated on.

Bergheim – Cramping pains in the abdomen, problems urinating, constant urge to urinate: Bladder stones can become very uncomfortable in different ways.

While they are a major problem in humans, they are even more extreme in animals that have difficulty expressing their symptoms.

Animal shelter emergency in Bergheim: Huge bladder stones discovered in the bitch Luna

The bitch Luna was hit particularly hard in the Bergheim animal shelter (Rhein-Erft district): 26 stones, some several centimeters long, had formed in her bladder, reports 24RHEIN.

The five-year-old dog had been given up by her previous owners at the animal shelter because of a “professional change” and the associated “lack of time”, the animal shelter writes on Facebook.

The employees at the animal shelter quickly noticed Luna's problems: she suffered from a constant urge to urinate, but rarely shed more than a few droplets.

A trip to the vet brought the confirmation: an X-ray showed a bladder full of urine gravel.

Normally, the deposits are eliminated automatically and unnoticed - but if this is not the case, they can become a real problem.

Luna developed a total of 26 of the painful stones.

The bladder stones could only be removed with a long operation.

Tierheim Bergheim: Looking for a new home for Luna

"She's doing much, much better now," the shelter later wrote on its Facebook website.

Nevertheless, the shelter workers are angry.

It is impossible for the bladder stones to have formed after the pet was dropped off at the shelter.

"She didn't just have this massive health problem since yesterday," it says.

The employees of the Bergheim animal shelter write that the previous owner did not say a word about the stones when they were handed over.

They're now wondering if "the owner's career change was really the only reason she broke up with Luna."

But the most important thing for the shelter is that Luna is finally doing better.

Now they are looking for a new home for Luna where she can thrive.

Because: "Luna is a dream dog"

In an animal shelter in Cologne-Zollstock, a cat lost the fight against an injury.

The animal came to the animal rights activists with a suppurating wound, but attempts to improve its health failed.

"Sascha" died in the arms of her nurse.
