In appreciation of a scientific march full of thought and knowledge that witnessed pivotal stations in preserving the Arabic language and Arabizing science, the Arabic Language Academy in Damascus held a memorial ceremony for the late scholar Dr. Marwan Al-Mahasni, which was hosted by the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus, amid a large official, cultural and media presence.

The memorial ceremony included the screening of a documentary film prepared by a member of the Synod, Marwan Al-Bawab, which included a glimpse into the life of Al-Mahasani, who passed away on the 20th of last March at the age of 96 years, spent in the service of the Arabic language, in addition to a presentation of his medical, scientific and Arabic achievements, the positions he held and the awards he received inside and outside Syria. and his many books.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, confirmed in the speech of the sponsor of the ceremony, Dr. Najah Al-Attar, Vice-President of the Republic that the late Al-Mahasni was a researcher, university professor, doctor, a brilliant surgeon, and head of the Arabic Language Academy from 2008 until his death, and he had a special interest in Arabizing medical and scientific terms, benefiting from his mastery of a number Of the foreign languages, pointing out that he was a scientific and patriotic stature, an ocean of knowledge, abundant in culture and broad-mindedness, and a solid defender of the Arabic language, but rather a lover and lover of it.

President of the Arabic Language Academy, Dr. Mahmoud El-Sayed, reviewed in his speech the late scholar’s ​​biography of giving and the achievements he achieved for the complex through chairing several scientific and medical committees.

The President of Damascus University, Dr. Osama Al-Jaban, stated in the university’s speech that the late Al-Mahasani was a scientific and patriotic figure, one of the men of science and thought in Syria and the Arab world, and one of the distinguishing marks in Damascus University.

The Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mushawah, indicated in the speech of the friends of the deceased that the late great was a knowledgeable source that did not break any dust, inciting to look beyond the direct connotations of words and to probe the depths of foreign terms, dismantle and analyze them to bring their meanings closer to the mind and facilitate finding interviews.

He was an encyclopedic reference in medical terminology as well as in environmental sciences, arts, literature, and the words of civilization. He was able to turn scientific sessions into an amazing mixture of fun and interest. He was polite and tactful in his dealings, beautiful in his soul and gentle in his community.

In his speech, a member of the Arabic Language Academy, Dr. Iyad Al-Shatti, conveyed the messages of the deceased's students from several Arab and European countries, who praised his noble qualities and good morals.

The researcher, Dr. Sami Al-Mobayed, reviewed in the speech of the family of the deceased, his conversation with him during their long sessions about the city of Damascus in its beautiful time, his colorful memories in its alleys, and his relations with historical figures he knew closely and was greatly influenced by, pointing out that the classical Arabic language was close to his heart until his death, and he is the one who defended it. With passion, he worked to preserve it with love, and demanded to strengthen it from his position as president of the Academy of the Arabic Language.

And the late Dr. Al-Mahasni, born in Damascus in 1926, holds a degree in surgery in 1955 from the University of Paris and a professorship in medical sciences in 1962 from the same university, in addition to a Bachelor of Arts from Damascus University in 1958. He held many centers and was a member of the Associations of Respiratory Diseases in Paris and Thoracic Surgery In England, he was a member of the Academy of Sciences in New York and rose in several positions, as he became a member of the Academy of the Arabic Language since 1979 in Damascus and served as the head of the Academy until his death.

He represented Syria in the Committee for Dialogue among Civilizations in the Federation of French-Speaking Universities 1974. He has dozens of scientific research published in medical journals, in addition to his participation in the classification of unified medical dictionaries and the dictionary of Italian words in the Arabic language, as he was not only navigating in Arabic alone, but was fluent in many languages ​​such as French and English. Italian and Spanish.

The memorial ceremony was attended by Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, Special Adviser to the Presidency of the Republic and President of the Arab Writers Union, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, a number of members of the Academy and a crowd of writers, writers and intellectuals.
