The young British woman who claimed to have been raped in Cyprus by a group of Israeli boys will continue to sue and transfer the case to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

This, after the authorities in Cyprus announced that they would not reopen the investigation into the matter.

According to defense attorney Michael Pollak, "the historic victory was missed after the Attorney General of Cyprus ruled out a new investigation."

The authorities' decision comes after the country's Supreme Court acquitted the young woman of the conviction for harassing the public for fabricating a false complaint.

The 21-year-old student, became a victim of the accused after in July 2019, during the investigation of her complaint of gang rape by 12 who were staying at a hotel in the resort town of Ayia Napa, she returned to it.

The young woman was forced to stay on the island for many months as her trial continued on the spot and in 2020 she was sentenced to four months probation.

The boys - who were first accused of gang rape, were released and returned to Israel.

She appealed her sentence and in February her conviction was overturned.

"The woman and her legal team hoped the police would reopen the case and she would get justice, but they were left disappointed by the decision," her lawyer said.

"The court not only detailed the many legal failures in the case against her, but also covered the procedural failures in investigating her rape complaint. In Cyprus, the Attorney General's decision to initiate or stop the criminal prosecution is not subject to any appeal or review. Thus, there are no local remedies available. At the disposal of our client to appeal. "

According to the lawyer, they intend to claim that the young woman's rights were violated by saying that "the investigation of the original offense was so bad that it violated Cyprus' duty to properly investigate and prosecute sexual offenses."

Lawyer Nir Jaslovitch, who represented some of the boys arrested following the incident, and also gave the main suspect to Walla!

In response that "the Supreme Court of Cyprus overturned the conviction for defects in the conduct of the trial against her, by the District Court. This does not mean that my clients committed any offenses against her and certainly there is nothing to prove that God forbid my clients did what was attributed to them I'm not worried about the future to come. "

Two weeks ago, a parliamentary court sentenced a 23-year-old Egyptian man to four years in prison for raping a young Nicosia woman who spent time on the beach of Ayia Napa.

According to reports in Cyprus, she drank at a beach bar until drunk, and while she was unaware of her actions the man and two of his friends took her to the water.
