2022 has been a great year for Mexican motorsports.

Names such as Sergio "Checo" Pérez, Patricio "Pato" O'Ward, Ricardo González and Daniel Suárez have been at the top of the podiums of mythical races in the main motorsport categories.

The "Checo" in Formula 1 took the Monaco Grand Prix and became the first Mexican to achieve this feat in the most prestigious and glamorous race of the "grand circus".

The same weekend, Pato O'Ward came close to winning the Indianapolis 500, finishing in second place and days later in the Le Mans weekend Ricardo González won in the LPM2 category in the legendary endurance test .

Added to these great milestones came a historic mark for Mexican motorsports with the triumph of Daniel Suárez in the NASCAR race held in Sonoma.

Suárez was the first Mexican to win a NASCAR Cup Series race and only the fifth non-American driver to do so.

A milestone for a category that has dominated motorsport in the United States since 1949.

Daniel Suárez explains the recent success of Mexican drivers 1:26

"Today, Mexican motorsports is in some very special years having Mexican drivers, not only in the most important categories in the world, but also being successful. Suárez highlighted the work of each one of those who have stood out in the main motorsport categories around the world and also assured that a good litter of drivers is coming, thanks in part to the support they are receiving inside and outside the country.

a team with different blood and with the singer Pitbull on board

While "Checo" Pérez in Formula 1 competes with Red Bull and "Pato" O'ward competes in Indy with McLaren, both teams with a great tradition in motorsports, Suárez in NASCAR belongs to a young team created in 2020 by former running back Justin Marks and the famous singer "Pitbull".

Despite the short existence of the team, they have achieved three victories with the three cars they have in the NASCAR Cup Series, one of those triumphs obtained by Suárez.

The rider from Monterrey highlights the "energy" of the team, its work philosophy and its relationship with Pitbull.

"Trackhouse has a different energy, it's a young energy. Something that I love about Trackhouse is we think a lot, as we say in the United States

outside the box

and I love that because we can do a lot of fun things with that. Pitbull and I have had a great relationship for several years and now being able to work together is very special. I have incredible admiration for him. He is one of those people that I admire with all my heart and that I have a lot, a lot of respect for everything he has done in his life professionally and personally."

The path of the "Czech"

Sergio Pérez in Formula 1 is undoubtedly the benchmark for every Mexican driver around the world.

His good performances since he reached the top category have always placed him as a driver to watch, but his arrival at Red Bull opened a different path for him.

In the 2021 campaign he was a key piece for Max Verstappen to be crowned champion and in this 2022 he is already questioning whether the team should give him a more leading role.

The "Checo" won in Monaco and although in some races he has had to follow the team's orders to the detriment of adding more points or winning races, his relationship with the team is unbeatable, Red Bull claimed to have him until 2024 and that opens the debate if The Mexican driver is there to fight for the championship or play his role as squire once again.

Does Checo Pérez deserve to be the number 1 of Red Bull?
