Eight policemen were killed and 33 others were wounded in a terrorist attack targeting their headquarters in the city of Warao, southeastern Niger, near the border with Burkina Faso.
"The National Gendarmerie detachment in Warao was attacked by armed terrorist groups on board dozens of motorbikes and vehicles, killing eight policemen and wounding 33 others, six of whom were seriously wounded," the Nigerian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The statement pointed out that about 50 terrorists were killed while confronting the attackers.
Niger has recently witnessed a number of terrorist attacks, the last of which was on the seventeenth of last March, when at least 21 people were killed, including two policemen, and others were wounded in an armed attack on a bus and a truck in the Tillaberi region in the southwest of the country.
