The community gave the OK.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen – There will again be a protest camp at the G7 summit in Elmau this year.
As early as 2015, the demonstrators were allowed to pitch their tents in a meadow not far from the summit area.
Now the OK came from the municipal administration.
On June 26, the G7 heads of state will meet at Schloss Elmau.
In this context, there will probably be demonstrations and maybe even riots.
G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: Freedom of expression is an important right
Green light for the protest camp of the G7 opponents.
This was announced by a spokeswoman for the Garmisch-Partenkirchen market on Wednesday afternoon.
The decision was sent to the “Stopp G7” action alliance by post.
"The approval of the planned protest camp is official," it said.
During the G7 summit days, the camp participants could pitch their tents on a selected meadow, taking into account requirements and conditions.
It is important to respect the constitutional rights of citizens, said the mayor of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Elisabeth Koch.
This also includes the right to freedom of expression, which cannot be overestimated, especially in these times.
"Obviously, such a camp for the activists around the "Stopp G7" alliance is part of the choreography of this freedom of expression - we respect that."
