Spain and Portugal are already experiencing a severe heat wave.

This is now migrating via France towards Germany.

It's going to be really hot at the weekend!

Wiesbaden – A look at the weather forecast on your smartphone or on TV already reveals it: it will be really hot across Germany at the weekend.

Weather experts expect record temperatures of almost 40 degrees, especially in the east, west and south.

Reason for this extreme heat at the end of June: a massive heat dome or so-called "heat dome" that is currently over Spain, Portugal and parts of France.

At the weekend, the heat dome will also reach Germany.

Meteorologist Dominik Jung from

wetter.net

describes the extreme heat as a "real Sahara outbreak".

Wetter.de

writes about the “Sahara clamp”.

It is still unclear how long the air from the desert will be available to us in this country.

The weather models differ significantly.

Weather: Never 40 degrees in June

The climate models do not yet agree on the duration of the heat, but they do agree on the intensity.

The German Weather Service (DWD) announces maximum values of up to 37 degrees for Saturday for the west and south-west.

Dominik Jung even sees 40 degrees coming to Germany.

And that, according to the expert, would be an all-time record.

Since weather records began, there have never been 40 degrees in Germany in June.

Most recently, March set a new record again.

Two models currently outline the possibilities for how long the heat will keep Europe sweating:

  • Model 1: European weather model - "Permanent heat and no end"

  • This model sees an end to the heat for Germany towards the end of next week.

In the middle of next week, another heat bubble is expected to roll over the country.

  • Model 1: American weather model - "Explosive air mass mix ignites from Monday"

  • According to this model, it is less hot, but all the more explosive.

The air mass change is faster, so it will cool down as early as Monday or Tuesday of next week.

However, it can also get really loud.

Meteorologist warns of lightning-intensive thunderstorms with heavy rain

In the second model, the rapid change in air masses can lead to violent thunderstorms.

Meteorologist Björn Alexander explains why at

wetter.de

: "These extremely hot air masses, coupled with the corresponding humidity, always have a high potential for severe weather." Therefore, by Sunday at the latest, one must be prepared for the first heat thunderstorms in the north-west and in the direction of the Alps.

In view of the explosive situation, these can also be quite violent, according to the expert.

He expects lightning-intensive thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail, storm and even hurricane gusts.

The south of Germany in particular - including Bavaria - has to be prepared for a few hot days combined with severe storms, regardless of which model occurs.

Whether the June heat record will be broken remains to be seen over the course of the weekend.

In any case, the nights can also be tropical, with up to 22 degrees.
