Al-Hasakah-SANA
Vast areas of rainfed crops have left the production cycle in Al-Hasakah governorate for the current season as a result of the weather conditions and the cessation of rain during the periods of plant growth before the sprinkling stage, which forced the farmer to rent his land to livestock breeders to graze their animal holdings in exchange for a specific financial allowance in order to reduce the percentage of losses that befell him.
Director of the Plant Production Department, Engineer Jalal Bilal, said in a statement to SANA reporter that more than 500,000 hectares of rainfed wheat and barley crops have left the production department, in addition to about 30,000 hectares of legume crops, especially lentils, in addition to the exit of some irrigated areas that were not irrigated by water. Adequate.
Bilal pointed out that some farmers have converted these holdings into pastures, which provided them with a financial alternative, alleviating the losses incurred in the production of agricultural lands.
For his part, the breeder Saber Al-Ameesh from the countryside of Tel Brak district spoke about renting agricultural lands, as the inclusion contributed to preserving their holdings of livestock in light of the high prices of feed materials and the low prices of livestock, which prompted some breeders to sell part of their holdings to cover the expenses of feeding their flocks.
The prices of renting agricultural lands vary from one region to another, according to the density of the vegetation cover in it, the stage of its growth, the number of the herd that will be grazing in it, and its size, as explained by a number of farmers, where the price of guaranteeing one hectare ranged between 100 and 150 thousand pounds.
