MTR pointed out that the cooperation plan will last for three years and hopes to promote the development of smart railways.

The MTR and the MTR Academy signed a memorandum of cooperation with PolyU yesterday, setting up a framework for the three parties to explore innovative solutions and technology applications, and to further utilize intelligent remote sensing technology to enhance the performance of railway operations and intelligent maintenance.

The scope of cooperation includes exploring smart solutions for monitoring railway assets and evaluating the status of assets, exploring the establishment of a joint laboratory for railway technology applications, and launching research projects to improve the operating environment of train operations, such as station crowd management.

Research on the application of optical fiber sensing technology in the rail range

The MTR added that the three parties have been cooperating in the fields of railway technology and the development of railway engineering expertise, including the research and development of the application of optical fiber sensing technology in the MTR railway track area.

The MTR also pointed out that it has reserved more than $300 million for investment in start-ups in the next few years, and will continue to allocate funds for similar projects in the future.

Chairman of MTR Auyang Boquan said that the company is determined to invest a lot of resources in the application of innovative technology, and hopes to cooperate with tertiary institutions to promote the development of smart railways in Hong Kong.

Teng Jinguang, President of PolyU, said that he is convinced of PolyU’s scientific research strength in smart railways and smart cities, and believes that this cooperation will bring more opportunities for application and transformation, and promote technological innovation in smart railways.
