Today, the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, described the recent bombing of the Donetsk People's Republic by Ukrainian forces as a war crime and a flagrant violation of international law.
"The recent bombing of Donetsk is another horrific war crime committed by the Kyiv regime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, including the principles of proportionality, military necessity, distinction and humanity," Nebenzia was quoted as saying by Sputnik agency today.
Nebenzia pointed out that "the residents of Donetsk were killed by 155mm artillery shells provided to Kyiv by NATO countries, including the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, France and others," stressing that "the authorities in Kyiv and the Western countries that supply them with weapons will be held accountable."
The day before yesterday, Donetsk was subjected to the heaviest bombardment by Ukrainian forces since 2015, killing six civilians and wounding more than 30 others. Among the targets were a local market and a maternity hospital.
