Those who are away for a long time often ask neighbors or friends to water the plants at home.

But with a simple life hack, you no longer need to do that.

Munich – For many, summertime is also vacation time: but anyone who loves their green home knows how difficult it is.

After all, indoor plants cannot just take a break, they want to be cared for.

Basically, you should adapt the water requirement and how often the plants are watered to the variety you have at home.

However, they still need enough water, especially when it is very hot.

Regular watering is mandatory because the water requirement is a lot higher on warm days.

Otherwise they drop their leaves and die.

But what to do when you're not at home?

Many vacationers then ask neighbors, family or acquaintances if they could step in and check on the plants from time to time.

But if you don't have this option, there is a simple trick to prevent the plants from dying of thirst.

All you need is a bucket of water and a few cords of wool.

Watering indoor plants: you need that for this

After all, “pre-casting” is not a solution either.

If you fill the pot with water, you are not doing your houseplants any good.

The water often cannot drain away quickly enough, which leads to waterlogging.

But if the roots stay wet for too long, they start to rot.

You can also try an "automatic" watering method to supply the plants with water evenly.

For this you only need:

  • A big bucket

  • A thick strand of wool per plant

  • A crate to raise the bucket

Don't skimp on the size of the water tank.

It is better if there is still a little water left when you return from vacation.

This will ensure that the plants do not run out of water.

When choosing the cord, you should also make sure that you choose material that is thick and long and can absorb water well.

In addition to real wool, cotton or nylon are also suitable.

Watering indoor plants: step-by-step instructions

How to proceed step by step with the construction:

  • Water your flowers so that the soil is evenly moistened.

  • Place your houseplants in a spot that is bright and spacious but not too sunny and hot.

  • Now place the water container near your indoor plants.

Place the latter close together, but not so that they are touching.

  • Trim strands of wool and feel free to braid them into thicker braids so they can hold the water for a long time.

  • Now dig a piece of cotton thread into the ground and stick the other end into the water container.

  • Finally, fill the container with water.

Optionally, you can add some liquid fertilizer.

With this life hack you can enjoy your vacation without worrying about your indoor plants.

When you come back, it's best to assess the condition of the plants.

From this you can draw conclusions for your next holiday and optimize the irrigation system.
