Uzieli Hazai, a man of etrogs from the Mahane Yehuda market, passed away yesterday when he was 80 years old and was laid to rest today (Wednesday) in his native Moshav Eshtaol.
For years Hazai was an integral part of the Mahane Yehuda market.
The Yemenite with the beard and the big smile would prepare special juices and medicines from citrons, winepress and other herbs, and his colorful stand became a must-stop for any group of visitors.
Hazai was born in Yemen and immigrated to Israel at the age of seven, his family settled in Moshav Eshtaol.
Hazai testified that the secrets of brewing the herbs from plants went through his family, and about twenty years ago he opened a juice stand in the Mahane Yehuda market, where you could buy etrog drink, Maimonides drink, drinks for pregnant women and men to strengthen men. Along with the drinks, Hazai developed products Natural cosmetics with creams from etrogs, pomegranates and more.

"He would walk around in nature, taste, research, bring to people, make medicine, dream dreams and get up in the middle of the night with a recipe or a new idea of what would be good for a person," said the house of Hazai Maayan.
"He would teach us how to mix the big pots and would tell me 'the plant is important, but the most important thing is to recharge it with energy and love. What we do feels it.'
The chairman of the Mahane Yehuda Market Merchants' Committee, Tali Friedman, said that "the whole of Jerusalem and the Mahane Yehuda market in particular are weeping today upon learning of the death of the veteran, beloved and colorful merchant, the man of etrogs."
He added that "the death of someone who was a prominent and special part of the market landscape will leave a deep void in us the merchants who are hurting his passing. blessed".
The mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Leon, also mourned his death, saying that Hazai was "a beloved Jerusalem figure and one of the prominent symbols of the Mahane Yehuda market."
"The 'etrog man' was loved by all of us," he added.
"We drew from it optimism, joy and a delicious recipe for a healthy and happy life."
Hazai left behind three children and grandchildren.
