2022-06-15T17:16:22.790Z

The waters reach a height of 4.2 meters in Montana and the floods force the closure of the five gates of the national park

The witnesses who recorded the video that accompanies this news saw how a house disappeared before their eyes.

She was swallowed by the Yellowstone River, as it passed through the town of Gardiner (Montana).

The flood that is registering is historic.

It reached a height of 4.2 meters at the point of Crowing Points (Montana), surpassing the highest record to date, of 3.5 meters, which dated from 1918.

Yellowstone National Park has closed all five of its gates, which is highly unusual.

An event like this has not occurred since the great fire that registered the natural environment in 1988. Visitors will not be able to access unless until Wednesday, while the damage to roads and bridges is inspected.

The damage is evident and can be seen in aerial images taken by helicopter and shared by the park authorities.

Infrastructure detachments and landslides have been recorded in the states of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

The heavy rains have joined the accelerated melting of the last snows of the year, due to an unusual increase in temperatures in the area, causing an unprecedented flood.

Yellowstone and its tourism are key to the local economy, which was still recovering from the ravages caused by the covid-19 pandemic in the last two years.

The flooding comes just two weeks before Veterans Day, a US holiday weekend that draws 4 million visitors to Yellowstone each year.
