Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accepted invitations to the G7 and NATO summits.

He follows the invitations of Olaf Scholz and Jens Stoltenberg.

KIEV - President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accepted invitations to the G7 and NATO summits at the end of June.

Zelenskyj announced this on Twitter on Wednesday.

"I have gratefully accepted invitations from partners to important international meetings," he wrote.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) invited him to the group of seven leading Western industrial nations.

The invitation to NATO came from Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Selenskyj did not say whether he would leave his capital Kyiv or how to connect to other conferences via video link.

The G7 summit is to take place from June 26th to 28th for the second time after 2015 in the alpine luxury hotel Schloss Elmau in Bavaria.

In addition to the USA and Germany, the G7 also includes Japan, Great Britain, France, Italy and Canada, and the EU is also represented at all meetings.

The meeting of the G7 means a state of emergency for the emergency services on site.

7,000 federal police officers are to ensure security in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district.

At the summit meeting of the western military alliance that begins on June 28 in the Spanish capital, the heads of state and government of the 30 NATO countries want to decide how the alliance will react to the threats posed by Russia's war policy in the medium and long term.

Specifically, this involves, for example, strengthening the eastern flank with additional NATO troops.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also said on Wednesday that it was not yet clear whether Selenskyj was arriving or would be connected from his office in Kyiv.

“He is welcome to come in person.

If that is not possible for him, he will speak to us via video conference,” said Stoltenberg.

Russia invaded the neighboring country on February 24.

So far, Ukraine has been able to withstand the superiority militarily, but is dependent on armaments from abroad.

Zelenskyy and his leadership have primarily asked their partners for heavy weapons.
