The Magistrate's Court added a week to the arrest of Rani Alkamat, who allegedly drove a vehicle that hit the traffic police checkpoint.

The detention of Rani Alkhamat, the suspect in the murder of a police volunteer, has been extended, after it was revealed in court that twice the amount of alcohol in his blood was found.

During a hearing in the Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court, Alkhamat, a resident of Rahat who was driving a vehicle that ran over volunteer Amichai Carmeli, was charged with murder, endangering human life and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Because of this and because of speculation that he and the occupants of the vehicle were also under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident, the judge added another eight days to Alkamath's detention.

As mentioned, at the hearing, the police representative revealed that Alkhamat's blood contained twice the amount of alcohol allowed and noted that the police at the scene saw him coming down from the driver's seat immediately after the accident.

Despite the police request to extend his detention by 12 days, the judge extended his detention for a week - until Thursday and noted: "The investigative material collected links the suspect to the driving of a vehicle that hit a volunteer and caused his death.

Prior to hitting the volunteer, the suspect fled police officers while driving wildly, hitting another vehicle, crossing red traffic lights.

The suspect committed the acts on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol.

All four were released under house arrest until Tuesday.

The occupants of the vehicle drove wildly after fleeing the scene of another car accident in Rishon LeZion, crossing two intersections at a red light and colliding, as mentioned, with volunteers, who set up a barrier to check drunk drivers.

Two volunteers were lightly injured, but Amichai Carmeli, who was severely injured by the vehicle and flown over the separation fence on the road, was fatally injured, and was pronounced dead by MDA staff. At Shamir Hospital, claiming he was injured when he fell down the stairs.
