The mayor of Lod made the remarks at the annual conference of the Association of Planners • Director General of the Planning Administration Dalit Zilber: "We are in the midst of a performance crisis from transportation to classrooms"

"We are at the beginning of a period in which significant budgets will be required for the promotion and implementation of vital super-infrastructures. The planning institutions have approved, as stated, hundreds of thousands of housing units, but at this stage the acute problem is not planning but execution."

The director general of the Planning Administration, Dalit Zilber, made the remarks at the annual conference of the Planners' Association held today in the city of Lod. 185,000 housing units in Arab, Druze and Circassian society. In the coming years, she further noted, the Planning Administration will continue to meet quotas for approval of housing units in accordance with the objectives of the strategic plan, although, it noted, an urgent solution needs to be found.

"We are in the midst of an performance crisis at the infrastructure level - from transportation and energy to classrooms. It is clear to all that neighborhoods can not be built and inhabited without the required infrastructure response - sewage, water, electricity and of course public transportation," Zilber said.

Zilber also called on the government to invest in setting budgets for urban renewal, including accompanying and assisting local authorities while paying special attention to peripheral areas, establishing required public services and adjusting the city's pattern to double the population.

"All of these require intelligent, efficient and high-quality planning. The Planning Administration has dealt with this in recent years and will be required to continue working with a comprehensive and responsible vision in the coming years as well," Zilber said.

New neighborhoods without sewage and electricity

The mayor of Lod, Adv. Yair Revivo, also emphasized in his remarks the gaps in the field of national infrastructure, which are hindering development plans. The gaps between construction and infrastructure are high, so neighborhoods are being established without sewage and electricity infrastructure.

"I do not have electricity for these places. The Minister of Energy did not believe me that we are really building, we do not have public transport (a facility that is part of the electricity network), we are building and we have no electricity to give or national infrastructure, roads and sewage. Powers for mayors should let us, the mayors, design the DACs and sewage facilities.

We know best the needs of the residents. "

"With public courage, we decided to give up a lot of parking spaces in downtown Lodz, for the sake of public transportation," added Adv. Revivo. "But the Ministry of Transportation needs to address public transportation.

Today I have a confrontation with the Minister of Transport, I tell her that I get their plan, I go fast in the city within a year, the metro plans have been approved for deposit with 5 stations in the city, we will network the whole city around for bikes Take care of at least parking spaces The Ministry of Transportation should take care of more public transport here, otherwise we would have eaten it.
