Édouard Philippe will award the prize … for the most unusual municipal decree

2022-06-16T11:34:13.565Z

The mayor of Le Havre will preside over the first edition of this competition in September, organized by the lawyers of the “Legal Curiosity” site. Municipalities can already apply.

The decision caused a stir (and that was the goal).

On December 6, 2019, the mayor of La Gresle, in the Loire, had forbidden her constituents to die on the territory of her commune.

And if the provisions of its municipal decree seemed far removed from the competences of a municipality, the latter not having been suspended for excess of power by the administrative court, it must be assumed that the offenders have since been exposed to sanctions. .. All this was not very serious, and the elected official offered herself, by a simple signature at the bottom of a text, a nice political advertisement.

She was actually alerting public opinion to the medical desert in which the inhabitants of her town live, which no longer has enough doctors in the area to issue death certificates.

In the same vein, there is still a decree prohibiting the installation of Pokémon on the territory of the municipality of Bressolles, another forcing the sun to shine every Sunday above the heads of the inhabitants of Challans... These grotesque decisions , which are more of a publicity stunt than regulatory action, have inspired the lawyers who run the “

Legal Curiosity

” website to organize a competition to reward the most unusual decree of the year.

Applications are open

“We want to encourage the mayors of small towns to write the most original municipal decrees this summer in order to highlight their heritage or put into perspective a problem encountered at the local level”

"

It all started,

he adds

, with the decree issued by the mayor of Châteauneuf-du-Pape who, in 1954, prohibited UFOs from flying over the city in order to make his wine known throughout the world.

".

Since then, not only have the bottles produced in the estates of this former vacation spot of the popes of Avignon been sold all over the planet, but flying saucers have never been seen flying over the vineyards either, proof that the mayor's authority is respected even on the planet Mars.

The results of the competition will therefore be announced on September 16, following the deliberations of a jury whose president has signed municipal decrees more often than not, since it is Édouard Philippe who will be responsible for the heavy responsibility for selecting candidates.

The mayor of Le Havre and former prime minister will be helped by other personalities present in the jury, such as the lawyer Laure-Alice Bouvier, the comedians Nicole Ferroni and Caroline Vigneaux or the actor François Rollin.

To the municipal elected officials who read these lines, know that it is therefore possible to participate now, by following the very simple rules set out by the organizers:

"It is enough for the municipality to issue a funny, poetic or absurd decree after the 17 May 2022, then to send a certified copy before September 15, 2022 to the address concours@curiositesjuridiques.fr”
