An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted the Ilocos Sur province in the northern Philippines today.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that the tremor, which occurred at a depth of 14 kilometers, 63 kilometers northwest of the city of Kandun in the province, was monitored, but there were no reports of injuries or damage.
The Philippines is subject to frequent seismic activities due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
