Sky Eye, the world's largest radio telescope, detected "several cases of possible technological traces and extraterrestrial civilizations," according to a team of astronomers from Beijing Normal University led by scientist Zhang Tonjie.

The report was published on Tuesday in the newspaper of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology but was later deleted for unknown reasons, despite the fact that it had already been published by state media.

The telescope is located in the southwestern province of Guizhou and is 1,640 feet (500 meters) in diameter.

In 2019 it began to be used to track radio signals in space and in September 2020 the search for extraterrestrial life was officially launched, according to the specialized publication Live Science.

That same year a team of researchers said they had detected two promising narrowband radio signals.

These types of frequencies are only used by human planes and satellites.

The research published Tuesday was based on a study of known exoplanets, and found a new narrowband radio signal that could point to an extraterrestrial origin.

"These are several different narrowband electromagnetic signals than in the past," Zhang Tongjie said in his report.

However, the scientist clarified that there is a "high possibility" that the signal is due to some radio interference not related to extraterrestrial life;

According to Live Science, the investigation will now focus on clarifying its origin, which "can be a long process," according to Tongjie.
