The storm of desecration of the Sabbath in Chumash continues: The Chief Rabbi of Israel and the head of the Great Court, Rabbi David Lau, asked the Commissioner of Police to investigate the desecration of the Sabbath caused by police activity at the Chumash yeshiva about two weeks ago.
"I would like to investigate the injustice and place the factors responsible for the seriousness of the act and the importance of the value of Shabbat," Rabbi Lau asked in a letter he sent to Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai. A number of students and yeshiva guests boarded buses in the middle of Shabbat and drove them to a nearby settlement.
"Shabbat is a sign of a covenant between the Creator and his people and maintaining its sanctity is a built-in part of the soul of the Israeli nation," the rabbi added.

"I do not enter into the considerations of the police, and on the other hand there is no need to exaggerate the importance of the Sabbath," Rabbi Lau continued his appeal.
"I understood that the yeshiva students felt that this was a deliberate coercion and caused them to desecrate the sanctity of Shabbat. After all, this is not a matter of mental supervision and this could have been done without degrading one of our sacred values - Shabbat. I write my words with heavy responsibility to the people of Israel.
At the end of his letter, the Chief Rabbi addressed the Commissioner in a personal tone with a request to examine the incident and inform the parties involved about the seriousness of the matter. The value of Shabbat, "Rabbi Lau signed his letter.
As you may recall, about two weeks ago, Border Police forces forcibly evacuated about 20 young men from the town of Chumash, desecrating Shabbat.
Despite the evacuation of the 20 boys, on Saturday hundreds of boys and guests stayed at the yeshiva, who enjoyed Torah lessons, dances, prayers and mass Shabbat meals and an uplifting Shabbat.
The Chief Rabbi's letter joins a letter circulated by Rabbi Shomron and Rosh Yeshivat Alon Moreh, Rabbi Elyakim Lebanon a few days ago in which he wrote "There is no security need and no operational need to evacuate the boys in the midst of Shabbat. To the impudence and daring of the forehead. "
