Cologne – The CSD demo in Cologne is a real highlight in the diary every year – not just for the people of Cologne.

24RHEIN reports that visitors and participants come from all over the world to demonstrate together for the demands of the LGBTQIA+ community as part of Cologne Pride 2022.

On Sunday, July 3rd, it's finally time again and the XXL demo train will be moving through Cologne.

When?

The demo will take place on Sunday, July 3, 2022 as part of Cologne Pride in Cologne.

In addition to the CSD demo, there are over 100 other events during Cologne Pride.

The Pride and the demo are organized by the Cologne Lesbian and Gay Day Association (KLust).

Where?

The demo runs from Deutzer Bridge, to Heumarkt, via Gürzenichstrasse, to Neumarkt and Rudolfplatz.

Then it goes via the Hohenzollernring to Magnusstraße to Marzellenstraße.

The demonstration ends there.

The route is 5.5 kilometers long in total.

► Why?

At the CSD demo, the rights and demands of the entire LGBTQIA+ community will be demonstrated.

Around 45,000 participants on floats and in groups on foot are expected.

► Impact?

The CSD street festival in Cologne and the demo affect all of Cologne.

Due to the crowds, there are road closures and restrictions on the KVB.

What exactly the disruptions will look like this year is not yet entirely clear.

The CSD demo 2022 is 5.5 kilometers long - the route leads right through the center of Cologne.

The demo starts on July 3, 2022 at 12 p.m. in the middle of the Deutzer Bridge.

From there it goes via Augustinerstrasse and the small Sandkaul to Gürzenichstrasse and Schildergasse in the direction of Neumarkt.

Via Hahnenstraße we continue to Rudolfplatz, via Hohenzollernring, Friesenplatz and Magnusstraße to Zeughausstraße.

The CSD demo 2022 is moving over the castle wall to Marzellenstraße - near Cologne Cathedral and Cologne Central Station.

The colorful demonstration ends there.

According to the city and organizers, 45,000 participants on wagons and in groups on foot as well as over a million spectators are expected.

“The hotels in and around Cologne have been fully booked for ages.

The train will again be around six hours long,” explains Hugo Winkels, KLuST spokesman.

"It's amazing how many people are signing up.

There was a real run on registration.

It's also unbelievable what people come up with – wonderful,” says Winkels.

For the demo on July 3rd, 143 different groups are registered to take part in the demo.

Also present: various clubs, parties, but also companies such as IKEA, Rewe, Deiters or Ford. Some of these are just foot groups.

Other groups travel in small vehicles or large trucks.

The group size varies between 10 and 500 people.

The KLuST association is at the forefront – with around 50 people.
