Bavaria wants to start a new attempt with Hesse and Baden-Württemberg for compulsory corona vaccination for people over 60 years of age. Several politicians think of it: little.

The push by several state health ministers for compulsory corona vaccination from the age of 60 is met with opposition in the Union parliamentary group.

“For good reasons, there was no majority in the Bundestag for compulsory vaccination.

The legal and scientific doubts were and still are significant," said the group's health policy spokesman, Tino Sorge (CDU), of the "world".

The FDP health expert Andrew Ullmann also expressed his negative opinion.

"I think it's hyperactionism to call for compulsory vaccination from the age of 60," he told the "Welt".

There is no parliamentary majority for this in the Bundestag.

Ullmann called the state initiative “hypocritical, unfeasible and populist”.

The Green health politician Janosch Dahmen also referred to the lack of a majority in Parliament.

That hasn't changed.

"I therefore consider it pointless to argue again about compulsory vaccination," he told the newspaper.

Bavaria, together with Hesse and Baden-Württemberg, wants to start a new attempt for compulsory corona vaccination for people over 60 years of age.

The Bavarian Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) had told the editorial network Germany (RND) that he wanted to campaign for this at the Health Ministers' Conference next week.

"I still regret that the Bundestag could not agree on compulsory vaccination," said Holetschek.

Appeals to vaccinate are important.

"But ultimately, mandatory vaccination is the faster way out of the pandemic."

A cross-party draft for a general obligation to vaccinate, initially from the age of 60, clearly failed in the Bundestag at the beginning of April.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) then made it clear that he saw no basis for a renewed attempt.
