Nur-Sultan-Sana
The Special Envoy of the Russian President to Syria, head of the Russian delegation to the 18th international meeting on Syria in the Astana format, Alexander Lavrentiev, announced that the next round of talks on Syria in the Astana format will be held this fall.
Lavrentiev said in a statement to reporters in Nur-Sultan today that "the next round of Syrian talks in the Astana format will take place in the fall of 2022."
Lavrentiev made it clear that Moscow is not satisfied with Geneva as a place for holding the meetings of the committee to discuss the constitution, because Switzerland is ahead of the rest of the Western countries in terms of sanctions and anti-Russian rhetoric, pointing out that talks are underway on this issue and will continue.
Lavrentiev pointed out that the guarantor countries of the Astana process have not yet agreed on a specific proposal on the date of the next meeting of its leaders, indicating that the Iranian partners have expressed their willingness to host the meeting.
Regarding the Turkish regime's threats of aggression against Syria, Lavrentiev reiterated Russia's opposition to that, calling on Turkey to retreat, not to resort to violence, and to resolve everything by peaceful means.
