Fires in Catalonia, Spain, have destroyed about 2,700 acres of forests and bushes.
Reuters quoted the provincial fire department as saying, "Three fires turned about 2,700 acres of forests and bushes to ash after a heat wave in the region caused temperatures to rise to approach record levels."
She added that the fires were burning near the towns of Baldomar, Corbera Debre and Castelar Ribera, while hundreds of firefighters using hundreds of trucks and about a dozen planes struggled to put them out.
Spain has been experiencing a scorching heat wave since late last week, the earliest summer heat wave in the country since 1981, when a combination of hot weather, winds and thunderstorms sparked several forest fires across the country.
In turn, France is witnessing a severe heat wave that put a quarter of its parts on alert, with the possibility of temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius.
And Olivier Proust, a forecast expert in French meteorology, explained that this wave has the effect of increasing the drying of the soil after a dry spring and winter and increasing the risk of forest fires.
It is expected that the severe heat will dominate tomorrow in a large part of France, with the heat wave extending to areas in the north and intensifying in the west and south.
