The next one will come soon.
Bamberg – super moon, blood moon, lunar eclipse: Such spectacles in the sky not only fascinate astro fans.
Two highlights can be seen in June: On June 21, the summer solstice comes with the longest day and the shortest night in the country.
And on June 14th, enthusiasts were able to marvel at a phenomenon that doesn't happen every day.
Namely the first supermoon in 2022.

But what is so special about the phenomenon?
Supermoons are full moons that come much closer to Earth than "normal" full moons.
The full moon was around 357,400 kilometers from Earth on the evening of June 14, 2022.
This closeness to us ensures that the full moon appears larger than normal in the form of the super moon to attentive observers.
According to NASA, it appears about 7 to 14 percent larger than on normal lunar days.
The moon not only appears larger to the observer, but also brighter.
About 30 percent more moonlight reaches Earth during a supermoon, even though the lunar surface itself is no brighter.
The reason: The visible lunar surface is larger than usual for the human eye and thus transmits more sunlight to us.

With the first super moon of the year, however, some compromises have to be made.
The moon reached its full moon phase on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 1:51 p.m.
At this time of day, however, the super moon is barely visible to the naked eye.
Nevertheless, the moon showed itself in its full splendor during the night.
The super moon was particularly easy to see in Bamberg, and together with the Altenburg in the background it was a real eye-catcher.
