Over the course of three days, the participants in the training workshop held by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in cooperation with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia “ESCWA” discussed the mechanism for assessing the gaps in the compatibility of wage policy with the principles of social justice.

The workshop, which concluded today, included 9 sessions that focused on introducing the guide to integrating principles of social justice and their interrelationship with the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, presenting a presentation on social protection in Syria, forming work teams, and starting the process of applying the gap assessment tool to wage policy.

Director of the Labor Directorate in the Ministry, Mahmoud Damrani, indicated to SANA that during the workshop, a working group was formed that was distributed among a number of groups who have a good level of theoretical and practical knowledge about salaries and wages issues and related policies and the development of development plans, pointing out that the main objective of wage assessment in Syria is to access social protection and improve public understanding of it in order to draw conclusions and recommendations that will contribute to the preparation of a national report to assess wage policy in Syria.

In turn, a member of the Executive Office of the General Federation of Trade Unions Jamal Al-Hajali stressed the need to scrutinize the policies, plans and programs of government agencies and local community organizations concerned with the production sectors in Syria, pointing out that the unjust economic siege on Syria imposed difficult economic conditions on citizens, and it was necessary that there be an approach between the price and wage policy This is what is being worked on in light of the available capabilities.

Ayman Mawlawi, treasurer of the Damascus Chamber of Industry, explained that what was focused on during the workshop was achieving equal opportunities and achieving related policies, which were halted as a result of the terrorist war that the country was exposed to, pointing to the importance of increasing wages in the public and private sectors as a result of the inflation that occurred in Syria.

It is noteworthy that the workshop was launched on the 14th of this month at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus, with the participation of representatives from the public and private sectors.
