The HA has launched a public-private partnership scheme since October last year to shorten the waiting time for new cases in specialist outpatient clinics.
The HA pointed out that it has cooperated with the private sector to introduce a "co-treatment" model, allowing specialist patients with stable conditions to go to private clinics in the community for follow-up consultations, so as to free up places for treating old diseases. Currently, about 600 private doctors are participating.

HA Chief Executive Experience (Quality and Standards) Doctor Lau Ka Hin said that since October, HA has implemented short-, medium- and long-term specialist outpatient clinics to shorten the waiting time for new cases.
Since February and March were the peak period of the epidemic, the number of new and old patients from specialties who visited the hospital for consultations dropped significantly, resulting in the new measures failing to accurately reflect the waiting time.
Liu Jiaxian pointed out that as the epidemic gradually eases, the number of new cases is expected to increase significantly, and it is hoped that the new plan will ease the waiting time for patients in different specialties.
The HA will increase the number of "polyclinics" with multi-professional teams led by doctors. In order to shorten the waiting time for patients, after patients arrive at these polyclinics, they will be analyzed and examined by nurses and allied health personnel to diagnose whether they need to see a doctor urgently.
Polyclinics are distributed in all hospital clusters. Currently, there are more than 100 polyclinics covering 19 specialties, such as ENT, child and adolescent psychiatry, and urology.
Dr. Lau Ka-hian, Chief Executive Experience (Quality and Standards) of the HA, hopes that the new measures will enable more new patients to receive timely treatment and shorten the waiting time for specialists.

In addition, the HA cooperates with the private sector to introduce a co-treatment model, so that some specialist outpatients with stable conditions can go to private institutions in the community for follow-up consultations in order to free up consultation places. Currently, there are about 600 private doctors participating.
At present, the psychiatry department has been arranged for trial implementation in the Hong Kong Island East Hospital Cluster and the Kowloon Chinese Medicine Hospital Cluster.
Liu Jiaxian continued to say that in many cases, patients are already in stable condition, but they are worried that they will have to wait for a new disease in the future. Therefore, senior doctors are arranged to monitor stable cases, so that patients who have recovered do not need to go to specialist outpatient clinics for follow-up. More new cases.
He also pointed out that after a patient is referred, even if he goes to a private institution to see a doctor, he still only needs to pay the consultation price of a public hospital.
