The People's Assembly condemned the renewal of the European Union's unjust and unilateral sanctions against Syria, calling for their immediate lifting.
In a statement today, the Council affirmed that these unilateral measures, in violation of all international conventions, international humanitarian law and human rights, directly affect the livelihood of the Syrian people in terms of food, medicine, education, job opportunities and human dignity.
The Council said: There is nothing that can be said about the European Union's renewal of these coercive measures without reviewing any of their flimsy reasons, except that it fully submits to the US administration, which has robbed it of the independence of its decisions.
The Council affirmed that the ease and cynicism in the European Union's decision to renew these sanctions against Syria and its people is evidence that the hostile policy and inhumane approach is far from diplomatic and moral norms and closer to the application of the logic of force.
The Council indicated that the condemned European action exacerbates the suffering of the Syrian people and increases their deprivation by losing their most basic human rights to a decent life.
