Ever since Chanel placed its
SloMo
in third place at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, behind only the winner Ukraine and the United Kingdom, there has been speculation about whether Spain could become the organizer of the musical contest next year.
Although the Ukrainian delegation continues to insist that it will be able to host Eurovision next May despite the war it is facing, the president of RTVE, José Manuel Pérez Tornero, has already ruled out that Spain will be its substitute in the event that the winning country cannot take over Eurovision.
"If Ukraine resigns, it will be the BBC that organizes it," Pérez Tornero explained this week in an interview with Prensa Ibérica.
The United Kingdom was the second classified country in this last edition, with
Spaceman
, played by a TikTok star such as Sam Ryder.
A few minutes after the victory of the Kalush Orchestra with
Stefania
was announced last May , the Spanish delegation applied to host the event in 2023 in case it could not take place in Ukraine.
But now it is known that this will not happen.
The president of RTVE has also clarified the progress that a possible Latin American version of Eurovision is experiencing: “we [RTVE] are going to split up.
We are going to try to launch a similar festival for Latin America and compete as well as possible in the next Eurovision”.

This new festival, still to be confirmed, would be, in the words of Pérez Tornero, “a Eurovision for Latin America, but in a different way.
Also recover that OTI festival, but in a different way.
We are thinking of a very innovative way that involves social networks, popular music, that enhances the ability of Latin music to be seen in the world”, he explained in that same interview.
The United States has launched this same 2022 the first edition of its own Eurovision Song Contest, entitled
American Song Contest
.
But, in this case, the format adopted has been that of a weekly competition for several months, in the style of
The Voice
and
American Idol
.
The space, broadcast on the NBC channel between March and May of this year and presented by singers Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg, has not achieved great audience figures, unlike the European original.
The network has not yet announced a second season.
For years there was also talk of creating an Asian version of Eurovision, but the organizers of the European song contest confirmed a few months ago that, for now, this project will not go ahead.
What is still going on is the resurrected Benidorm Fest, which serves as a pre-selection for the Spanish candidate for Eurovision and which will have a new edition in early 2023. “We held a festival to expand the visibility of that young music.
And the result has been successful with the audience, we have competed well in Turin and it marks a connection with the young audience that we did not have.
I think it is significant, and we are already planning for this to be redirected in the future, that there is also constant work with young people”, comments the president of RTVE.
