The international forces have not revealed his identity, but they did reveal that he was an "experienced bomb maker and instructor."

The international coalition against the jihadist group Islamic State (IS), led by the United States, has reported this Thursday in a statement the arrest of one of the leaders of that terrorist organization in an unspecified place in Syria, during a military operation to first thing this Thursday morning.

The text does not reveal the identity of the alleged terrorist, but it does highlight that he is "an experienced bomb maker and instructor, who became one of the main leaders of the group in Syria."

A spokesman for the Syrian rebel group Syrian National Army (SNA), which is backed by Turkey, told Reuters that coalition forces carried out this attack using helicopter gunships in the village of Al Humaira. , located just south of the Syrian-Turkish border.

"This is the first operation in areas under the control of SNA in which US helicopters land," said this spokesman, identified by the news agency as Major Youssef Hamoud.

Hamoud said US-made Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters were involved in the raid, though he said the circumstances of the operation were not yet clear.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based organization with an extensive network of collaborators on the ground, has confirmed that helicopters belonging to the coalition against the Islamic State participated in an operation in northwestern Syria at dawn. .

"Some nine international coalition aircraft flew low over the Al Sajor line, in the rural areas of northeast Aleppo, and shots were heard in these areas, amid reports of an operation in the Al Haimar area." , the NGO said in a statement.

According to this observatory, the helicopters took off from the Kobane area, in the hands of the Kurdish-Syrian allies of the international coalition, and headed towards areas controlled by the Turkish-backed militias in Aleppo province.

Later, members of the international coalition landed in Al Humaira, where a shootout broke out with several individuals who were sheltering in houses in that town.

The US-led coalition against the terrorist organization continues to respond with attacks on the terrorist organization which, since its military defeat three years ago, has not ceased its insurgent activity.

At the beginning of the year, the jihadist formation carried out its largest action in Syria since it was defeated in March 2019, with a riot in a prison with thousands of prisoners of the group that resulted in nearly half a thousand deaths in the northeast of the country.

This Thursday's operation is reminiscent of the one carried out in February by Washington's special forces in the Syrian province of Idlib, controlled by the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al Sham (Organization for the Liberation of the Levant), which led to the death of the Supreme leader of the Islamic State Abu Ibrahim al Hashemi al Quraishi.

This leader had assumed the leadership of the organization since the death of its founder Abubaker al-Baghdadi, who was killed by detonating explosives during a US incursion in 2019, also in Idlib province, adjacent to Aleppo.

This operation by international forces occurs in the context of Turkey's threat to launch a new offensive in northern Syria, directed mainly against Kurdish militias allied with Washington in the Arab country.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (FSD), the Kurdish-led coalition in charge of security in much of the nation's northeast, accuse Turkey of supporting the Islamic State to advance its own interests.
