Three swimming accidents occurred on Sunday in Karlsfeld Lake.

Two ended lightly, also thanks to the courageous intervention of passers-by.

The third case, however, has serious consequences.

Karlsfeld – Last Sunday was perfect for a trip to the Karlsfeld bathing lake: it was sunny and warm, the water was crystal clear and refreshing.

According to Oliver Welter, chairman of the Dachau BRK district water rescue service, there was a correspondingly large crowd in and around the lake: "It was pretty full."

Three bathing accidents at Karlsfelder See: Bathers rescue two swimmers who have had an accident

Two swimmers probably owe their lives to this circumstance - and the courageous intervention of some bathers.

As the water rescue service reports, there were three swimming accidents on Sunday, in which the emergency services, together with helpful passers-by, were able to prevent worse things from happening.

According to Welter, the first accident

happened around 12 noon.

A middle-aged man with a pre-existing condition suffered a “medical emergency in the water and was no longer able to stay afloat on his own,” as the head of the lifeguard put it.

A stand-up paddler, i.e. a stand-up paddler, noticed the man's plight, pulled him out of the water and transported him on his board towards the shore.

There, the rescuers from the water rescue service took over the medical care of the patient, who was finally transported to the hospital by the rescue service.

The second accident

, a similar emergency, happened immediately afterwards.

An 82-year-old man from the Dachau district suffered from a dizzy spell in the water and went under. In this case, too, other bathers reacted immediately, dialed the emergency number 112 and took the man out of the water to the shore, where he regained consciousness and received medical attention was taken care of.

Unfortunately, the third accident

did not end so lightly.

Around 2:20 p.m., a 40-year-old from Munich disappeared in the water directly below the edge of the bank.

As Welter explains, in principle all Upper Bavarian quarry ponds – as former gravel pits – have the same profile: After a shallow entrance, the lake then suddenly drops steeply – which is a problem especially for non-swimmers and elsewhere, according to Welter, “always closed accidents".

In Karlsfeld, too, the bottom of the lake “suddenly breaks off”;

Welter explains that there have been “thank God no problem” there so far with the fact that the water in Karlsfeld is mostly very clear and a view down to the bottom is possible.

According to the police and the water rescue service, it is not yet clear why the 40-year-old went down on the edge.

There were no medical reasons, at least that much is certain.

Swimmers have an accident in Karlsfelder See: bathers react on the spot

After the man's disappearance, the rescue chain worked here too: swimmers alerted the integrated control center 112 - stating the rescue column number - others called the lifeguards, and others looked for the drowned person.

After agonizingly long minutes, a swimmer finally recognized the already unconscious Munich player at a depth of five meters.

Two lifeguards pulled the man out of the water, brought him to shore and began resuscitation.

Together with the rescue service who had meanwhile arrived and the THW first aiders, the revival was successful.

When, according to Welter, the patient “had circulation but no consciousness” after half an hour, he was flown to the Großhadern Clinic in a rescue helicopter.

There he continues to fight for his life.

According to Welter, it should be certain that the 40-year-old – even if he should wake up from the coma – after so many minutes under water and thus without oxygen – “will never be the same again”.

The willingness to help was enormous!

However, the chairman of the water rescue service, Welter, emphasizes, also on behalf of his colleagues, that the bathers, despite this tragic accident, behaved properly: "The willingness to help was enormous!

Onlookers who stand in the way and film the operation with their cell phones have become the exception.”

Swimming accident at Karlsfelder See: setting a good example

Accidents of this kind are basically about speed, as the rescue professional emphasizes.

Eyewitnesses to accidents should therefore be guided by the example of the bathers who helped on Sunday: "One tried to rescue, another called the emergency number at the same time and said the number of the rescue point." There are currently ten of these numbered emergency signs around the lake ;

According to Welter, they are worth their weight in gold for the emergency services.

Because: "They ensure 95 percent that patient and rescuer find each other quickly."

The water rescuers at Karlsfelder See had to cope with three life-saving missions on Sunday, two patients owe their lives to the courageous efforts of other bathers!

Around 12 p.m., the security team became aware of a SUP driver who picked up a swimmer from the water, as the water rescue service announced in a press report.

Due to a medical emergency, it was no longer able to stay afloat on its own and was in danger of sinking. On the bank, the rescuers from the water rescue service took over the medical care of the patient, who was finally transported to the hospital by the rescue service.

Continuous use for lifeguards at Karlsfelder See: Other bathers react immediately

Immediately afterwards, a similar emergency occurred, an 82-year-old man from the district suffered a dizzy spell in the water and went under, other bathers reacted immediately, dialed the emergency number 112 and got the man out of the water onto the shore, where he came back to himself came.

The water rescue service clears the peninsula for the landing of the rescue helicopter and takes care of the patient until the rescue service arrives.

Karlsfelder See: water rescue rescues man from drowning

Unfortunately, the third mission did not have such a positive end - around 2:20 p.m. the rescuers heard calls for help, at the same time an emergency call was made to the control center via 112: At rescue point 4, a man called for help and finally went under - the lifeboat of the lifeguard was with them two water rescuers were immediately on the spot, together with bathers they searched the edge of the bank.

A bather recognized the drowned person in about five meters of water - two lifeguards pulled the lifeless man out of the depths and brought him to the shore.

Together with THW first responders, they began resuscitation. After about 30 minutes, the patient was sufficiently stabilized that he could be flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter.

"The patient's condition was critical and it is unclear whether he will survive the accident," said the lifeguard.

Security manager Andreas Fichtl is very satisfied with Sunday: "The training of our members is great, the rescue measures went very well with every operation".

He also praised the good help of the bathers, without whose help all three patients would no longer be alive: "The willingness to help has increased enormously - onlookers who stand in the way and film the operation with their cell phones have become an exception".

For a 50-year-old man, however, any help came too late last year.

He drowned in Karlsfeld Lake.
