Benedikt Irl (21) found his dream job through a voluntary social year (FSJ) in Moosinning.

He didn't even have that on his screen a year ago.

Moosinning

– Moosinning is one of the municipalities that give young people the opportunity to do a voluntary social year (FSJ) in sport.

There will be another vacancy in the fall.

The last FSJler was Benedikt Irl (21) from Altenerding.

He tells about his experiences.

Mr. Irl, why did you decide to do an FSJ?

It was actually the classic.

I just turned 18 after the G8 Abitur and couldn't decide: What do I want to do with my life now, 40 or 50 years from now?

I wanted to get my bearings a bit.

Didn't you have any plans?

Yet.

On the one hand, that was music, my biggest passion, and then something with children.

I've always liked working with children and was already active as a football coach at the age of 15.

And then as a footballer, of course, something with sport - and also with staff.

I've always been interested in working with people, leading groups.

Which goal was favoured?

I had considered going towards a high school teaching degree with music as my major.

Then I saw the job advertisement for an FSJ in Moosinning and decided to do it.

Why in Moosinning?

As an Altenerdinger, Moosinning is very close.

But the special thing about the job advertisement was that there were a lot of work tasks combined.

It is a mixture of community, i.e. mainly school and lunchtime care, as well as FC Moosinning, and it was precisely this mixture, the varied working day, that appealed to me.

Did you have any other irons in the fire?

I had considered doing a dual degree with the city of Munich.

But then I would have had no children and no music with me, and that was the most important thing in my choice.

And of course sports.

Tell us a bit about your FSJ everyday life.

It always started in elementary school until 12 noon, after that I was in charge of lunchtime and homework supervision.

In the evenings or at weekends I went to the sports club, and during the election I also spent a few weeks at the town hall.

That was incredibly interesting.

What did you like in particular?

It was particularly exciting at school.

I was able to take a lot with me because I had the goal of studying to become a teacher.

I helped in all classes and was sometimes allowed to work with smaller groups.

Working with children who have just come to Germany was particularly exciting.

I supported them in individual lessons in learning German.

What else was there?

I've been involved in all kinds of projects, from ice skating to Christmas parties.

I was always fully integrated and was allowed – I would like to emphasize this – to be a part of the teaching family.

It was the same for all teams: I didn't have to do the classic "internship jobs" such as copying or making coffee.

Because I was there for a long time, I received trust and was allowed to take on jobs with responsibility.

What were your duties at FC Moosinning?

I was used in two coaching teams in the E-Youth, was allowed to do training independently and had something to say at the games.

I was more or less an assistant coach and also away from home.

I was also in a hobby volleyball group and in parent-child gymnastics.

I was allowed to do that alone, it was practically “my child” at the FCM.

That sounds varied

.

That was it.

It was great that I didn't just do one job and that I was allowed to take on so much responsibility.

What was the highlight?

That was the excursion with the teachers to the bobsleigh and toboggan run at Königssee, which unfortunately has now been destroyed.

We took part in a luge competition with teachers from all over Bavaria.

Would you do the FSJ again - and again in Moosinning?

In any case.

The year smoothed my career path.

I could never have imagined a primary school teaching position before the FSJ, but then I was on the primary school team and I was really excited about it.

The teachers, especially Rector Markus Pfanzelt, got me hooked and showed me that I can imagine it.

They not only gave me a taste of the job, but let me immerse myself in it.

That's when I saw: That's what I want to do.

I would like to emphasize that everything was very well coordinated between the individual departments.

I was never up in the air, I was taken care of a lot, I always had someone to talk to.

I've heard from other FSJ students that it's not always like that.

So would you recommend an FSJ in general?

Absolutely.

You are still very young after graduating from high school.

You shouldn't let yourself be so stressed that you have to continue straight away because otherwise you'll lose a year.

As an FSJler you have one year to make a decision and you get paid, for me it was 300 euros.

I found that a great appreciation.

What do you think of the idea of compulsory social service?

My personal opinion: It doesn't have to be a full year, but six months in a social or nursing facility would not hurt anyone, help the facilities to alleviate staffing shortages and perhaps bring some into the social professions in the future.

To whom would you particularly recommend the FSJ

?

Especially young people who want to do something with children.

Especially with such professions you should know whether you like it for life before you do it.

And you also do the trainer's license, which I now benefit from as a small additional source of income.

Clubs like to see you there.

The course with the other FSJler was a very nice time.

What are you doing now or what is your career aspiration?

Now I'm studying to become a primary school teacher, majoring in music.

I continue to do sports as a trainer with various groups of children.

And if I were to become a rector at an elementary school at some point, then I would also have the human resources component.

For me, the FSJ was just perfect.
