Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that no US request had been received regarding the detention of two American mercenaries in the outskirts of Kharkov.
The RIA Novosti news agency quoted Zakharova as saying in an interview with the "Solovyov Live" program that she had no information about any US contacts with the Russian side in this regard.
And the British newspaper, “Telegraph”, had reported that Russian forces had arrested two former American soldiers who had participated in the fighting as mercenaries in Ukraine alongside Kyiv forces.
The two are believed to be the first two US soldiers to end up as captives of the Russian army, and they join a growing number of Western mercenaries captured by Russian forces, including at least two Britons.
The newspaper pointed out that the arrest of the Americans will constitute evidence of Washington's direct involvement in the Ukrainian war.
