“We no longer recognize France”: in Paris, the Place du Trocadéro plagued by delinquency

REPORT - Every evening, or almost, delinquents - unaccompanied foreign minors, in the overwhelming majority - rob tourists who have come to admire the Eiffel Tower.


“The Trocadero has become a focal point for crime.

, ”explains Matthieu Valet, spokesperson for the Independent Union of Police Commissioners (SICP).

For several months, onlookers who have come to admire the Eiffel Tower - tourists in the lead - have been robbed by thugs often armed with knives or broken bottles.

These offenders are on the lookout for the slightest opportunity: telephone, watch, chain, bracelet.... The respondents are overwhelmingly unaccompanied minors or young undocumented adults, often claiming to be minors, originating from the Maghreb. .

Unaccompanied minors represent around 20% of all police custody in the 16th arrondissement and 75% of all minors referred to the capital.

“I avoid walking there with my girlfriend”

Residents of the Trocadero know this well: when evening comes, it is better to avoid venturing into the square or the gardens.
