A family member of the right-wing extremist publisher Götz Kubitschek works for the AfD parliamentary group.

Mario B., who is married to a daughter of Kubitschek's wife, has been a policy officer in the area of responsibility of parliamentary group leader Alice Weidel since March.

In 2000, Kubitschek founded the think tank "Institut für Staatspolitik" based in Schnellroda, Saxony-Anhalt.

He is considered a whisperer by AfD right-wing extremists like Björn Höcke, the state head in Thuringia.

The Office for the Protection of the Constitution monitors the think tank where Weidel appeared in 2019 and its magazine »Secession«.

B., who occasionally uses his other first name Walter for his work in the parliamentary group, studied law in Hamburg and is a member of the far-right Hamburg fraternity Germania, which has been in the sights of the Hamburg intelligence service since 2014.

He is also said to have connections to the "Identitarian Movement", whose spiritual father is Kubitschek and which is on the AfD's incompatibility list.

When asked, B. did not want to comment.

Weidel's spokesman said: "The parliamentary group does not comment on individual employees.

I can only tell you that Mr. B. went through a proper application process.«

Since mid-2018, Weidel has come to terms with the right-wing extremists and forged a non-aggression pact.

At that time, she, who years earlier had tried to throw Höcke out of the party, took the initiative and sought contact with him through intermediaries.

In the first year there were already several meetings with Höcke and Kubitschek, sometimes his wife Ellen Kositza and Alexander Gauland, then still party leader, also came.

Since this strategic change, Weidel has enjoyed the support of Höcke's loyalists.

When her fundraising affair became public at the end of 2018, hardly anyone from this camp criticized her – and it most likely secured her post.

Conversely, Weidel keeps quiet when there is criticism of wingers.

And traveled to Schnellroda to give a speech - and to make their approach public.
