The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, affirmed that Western institutions are intimidated by the stick of sanctions if they cooperate with Russia, and that talk about excluding Russian food and fertilizer exports from the sanctions is delusional.
“There is no doubt that the effect of the exceptions that the initiators of sanctions are talking about is nothing but a fantasy, because banks, insurance companies and Western businesses that are intimidated by the possible sanctions for violating the restrictions refuse to accept the restrictions,” TASS news agency quoted Antonov as saying in an English-language article he wrote for the American magazine “The National Interest.” No cooperation.
Antonov added that the anti-dumping measures applied to the supply of Russian fertilizers complicate matters further, stressing that promoting the so-called “guilt” of Russia in complicating the situation in the field of global food security has nothing to do with reality.
The Russian ambassador reiterated his denial of Western allegations of Moscow's involvement in the global food crisis, calling on the United States to cooperate to overcome it. "If Washington really wants an improvement in the world agricultural market, let it cooperate with us and stop blaming Russia for all the problems. For our part, we are ready to work together," he said. To improve the situation in all countries of the world.
Last month, Antonov confirmed that the allegations of Western countries that the sanctions imposed on Russia have nothing to do with the global food crisis and do not affect the supply of foodstuffs and fertilizers are "false and cunning" because the situation in global food markets is directly affected by the sanctions in the financial and transport sectors, noting that Russia Committed to international contracts with respect to export delivery of agricultural products, fertilizers, energy resources and other important commodities.
