Supermarkets and shops in NRW must remain closed on Corpus Christi.

But there are exceptions: Where you can go shopping despite the holiday.

Cologne – Corpus Christi is not a public holiday in all German federal states, but it is in NRW, among others.

At the same time, this means that most shops in the affected federal states, including supermarkets and discounters, must remain closed.

Because even if most shops remain closed, there are alternatives.

Petrol stations, for example, may also be open all day on public holidays.

However, the products here are in most cases significantly more expensive than in the supermarket.

Another possibility are larger train stations or airports.

Shops there are also allowed to open on Sundays and public holidays, but strictly speaking they only sell travel supplies.

Shopping on Corpus Christi in NRW: will bakeries be open on June 16, 2022?

Anyone who is looking forward to fresh bread rolls on Corpus Christi can breathe a sigh of relief.

Because despite the holiday, the bakeries in NRW are allowed to open.

However, not during the usual opening hours.

Due to the public holiday rule in the NRW Shop Opening Act, bakers are only allowed to open for a maximum of five hours on Corpus Christi.
