After a forced two-year break, there was another Corpus Christi procession in Erding.

It was all about world politics.

Erding - Due to the pandemic, the church was not able to celebrate its high festivals in public for two years.

Just remember the lonely path of the Erdinger town priest Martin Garmaier with the Easter candle from St. Paul through the old town to St. John.

The Corpus Christi procession also had to be canceled twice.

Yesterday it took place again - with an impressive procession through the old town.

From the church we walked back to the church via Langezeile, Pfendtnergasse, Rätschenbach, Bräuhausgasse and Schrannenplatz.

Mayor Max Gotz and District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer also took part in the procession.

In his sermon, Garmaier addressed the Sweden Games, which recounted how the Swedes sacked Erding and many other cities 400 years ago - driven by a despot "whose concern was to expand his power without regard for losses".

According to Garmaier, the Swedish colors yellow and blue are "fatally reminiscent of the same colors of the Ukraine".

This country is also currently under attack, again by a power-hungry leader.

The pastor was outraged that Christian motives were also cited for the attack and that the Russian patriarch was behind Putin's aggression.

Then as now, only death, misery, grief and despair would be brought to the people.

For Garmaier, the Sweden Games are not only a historical spectacle, but also a reminder that "God does not leave people alone in their worries and their hopelessness".

In the best weather, the procession then moved through the city.

Led by the town band, delegations from numerous associations, communion children and believers took part.

The altar in front of the Frauenkircherl, which the Kolping Family had designed - for the 22nd time with a colorful carpet of flowers and blossoms - was particularly worth seeing.

Corpus Christi is celebrated on the second Thursday after Pentecost, 60 days after Easter.

The focus is on the host, the consecrated bread.

It is considered a symbol of the presence of Christ.

The festival is related to the last supper of Jesus and his disciples on Maundy Thursday.

In federal states and individual communities with a predominantly Catholic population, Corpus Christi is a public holiday.

Corpus Christi processions also took place yesterday in Erding in the districts of Altenerding and Langengeisling as well as in numerous other communities in Erdinger Land.
