The IFAB defined a series of changes to the rules of the game, including one on the position of the goalkeeper on penalties.

Who is the goalkeeper who "danced" in the goal against Peru?

(CNN Spanish) --

The International Football Association Board, the institution that sets the rules of the game in soccer competitions, defined a series of changes that will be in force as of July 1, including one on the position of the goalkeeper when they are thrown penalties.

The modification refers to where the goalkeeper's feet should be before and when the penalty kick is taken.

"It is emphasized that the spirit of the rule requires the goalkeeper to position both feet in direct contact with or directly above the goal line

until the penalty is taken

; in other words, the goalkeeper may not stand neither ahead nor behind the finish line", says the organization when explaining the change in the regulations.

There was no emphasis in last year's rules that both feet had to be on the line prior to calling.

In addition, according to the text, "at the moment of the hit, the goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot in direct contact with the goal line, or on it or behind it."

Before, if the goalkeeper had one foot in front of the line and the other behind at the time of payment, it constituted an infraction, regardless of whether or not it meant an advantage over the opponent.

The change in the rule means that this position of one foot in front and one behind is not penalized.

The rest of the changes and clarifications to the rules of the game refer, among other aspects, to the number of substitutions allowed and the infractions of the goalkeepers.

The change, which applies from July 1, according to FIFA, applies to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The news is known the week that Peru was left out of the World Cup after falling in the playoff against Australia 5-4 on penalties.

Australian goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne, who entered just before the shootout for the starting goalkeeper and ended up blocking the decisive shot, drew a lot of attention for his particular strategy of blocking penalties almost dancing inside the goal while the player took a run to kick.

In the penalty that Luis Advíncula missed, for example, Redmayne jumps and moves and before the shot at times he only has one foot on the ground on the line.

Thus, considering that the new rule says that the goalkeeper must have both feet on the line "

until the maximum penalty is

taken", what Redmayne did would not be allowed since July.

In addition, when the Peruvian kicks Redmayne it seems that he does not have both feet on the line.

The sports newspaper

Olé

pointed out without a doubt that Redmayne was ahead.

The dance also occurred in the penalty that saved Alex Valera, the decisive charge that left Peru without a World Cup.

The IFAB, the acronym in English by which the institution is known, is made up of the four football federations of Great Britain, which have one vote each, and FIFA, which has four votes and represents, according to information on the website official, to the remaining 207 football federations.

Changes to the rules of the game can only be defined in the annual assemblies that have the participation of the main representatives of the institution.

These assemblies are organized in different territories of Great Britain or in other places defined by FIFA when there is a World Cup.

This year's was held in Doha, Qatar, precisely where the World Cup will be held in 2022 in November.
