Geneva, SANA- Several European countries have issued warnings of a severe heat wave as their temperatures rise to record levels

Geneva-Sana

Several European countries have issued warnings of a severe heat wave as their temperatures rise to record levels due to climate change and global warming.

The American network (ABC News) quoted Claire Nullis, a spokeswoman for the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva, as saying that the temperatures in some French and Spanish regions are 10 degrees Celsius higher, which is a large rate compared to the average temperature in these countries at this time of each year. She added that heat waves have become more frequent and more intense as a result of the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which has reached a record level.

Climate experts pointed out that the unfamiliar early heat wave is an indication of what will happen due to continued global warming, and consequently the high temperatures that Europe will face during the coming months of July and August.

In France, warnings were issued for a strong heat wave that will strike and affect a third of the country, in addition to warnings of forest fires in the south.

The French authorities allowed school children to stay at home in 12 areas to avoid the high temperature, and the temperature is expected to reach more than 40 degrees Celsius, and it will rise unusually at night, and this rise will extend to reach the coldest places.

For its part, Britain warned that the temperature rise during the summer to 34 degrees Celsius is rare this month.

The German meteorologist expected that the temperature will continue to rise, pointing out that this rise came after an unusually dry spring due to climate change, which affects rainfall patterns and the rate of evaporation, and thus causes repercussions on agriculture, industry and wildlife.

The current heat wave that hit Europe began a week ago in Spain, where temperatures reached more than 43 degrees Celsius, and this rise, in addition to the lack of rain, caused forest fires that swept the country last week.

It is noteworthy that politicians and experts met today in the Spanish capital, Madrid, to discuss ways to address drought and the increasing spread of deserts around the world.
